"Carbon Series"
The essential ingredients to life are found in the elements present in everything around us-from the air we breathe, the coffee cup we hold, to the pencil we use to write. They are evident in fossils, can also be traced as far back as 4 billion years ago to when the earliest rocks on Earth were found, and to the edges of the universe. These elements- hydrogen, oxygen, carbon, etc.are ubiquitous. “Carbon Series” is an endeavor at expressing these omnipresent elements, a personal voyage digging through various strata, and chronology, uncovering evidence with each piece.
Carbon, one of the most abundant elements in the universe is evident in everything around us and exists in multiple forms(or allotropes), one of which is graphite. These drawings are based on observations of rocks and rock formations, research of molecular structures, and the ever-present joy of looking at fossils and anything prehistoric.
